Some of you might have seen it and asked yourself "Is this normal?". It's definitely not something you walk away from. You run!!! L.O.L. Just kidding.

My first encounter was wow is it:

Low on charge?

A restriction possibly?

Going take going to be a long day?

Should I go home?

If you know this particular model you already know the bottom coil is only 1/3 of the chassis coil surface. If you don't, Surprise! Yes there are two separate coils. And by the looks of it the bottom coil is starving for refrigerant and creating a defrost issue and obviously a shortage of capacity. This particular model relies on both leaving coil temperature sensors for part of its defrost initiation. With the bottom coil not feeding it will never get approval from both. This unit will require a Sub-coil EEV calibration or valve stepper motor replacement (if needed). And don't rule out a restriction, although it's not usually the case. Performing a calibration will help you troubleshoot this issue and most of the time take care of it for a while unless the valve or stepper motor is defective. We strongly suggest checking valve calibration a minimum of twice a year. I usually notice it in the winter because the coils will frost unevenly if your valves are out of sync. Please feel free to chime in with your own stories. We would love to hear them. After all that's how we learn, and most likely remember, complicated issues.

I THINK LG SHOULD INVEST IN TOOLING SOME NEW EEV VALVES INTO THE MARKET. MAYBE THE COLD TEMPS IN THE NORTH CAUSE THEM TO ACT UP IN WINTER, GREATLY PUTTING THEM OUT OF CALIBRATION. LG SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY SENDING AN ERROR CH CODE TO STOP, BEFORE FURTHER DAMAGE IS DONE. YOU GUYS MAKE GREAT TOOLS THANKS!
